> The acreage calculator finds the area of a rectangular piece of land from its length and width and gives it in acres, hectares, square feet and square metres. You can also type a target acreage to find the length you need.

## Inputs

- Length (ft, m, km, cm, in, yd, mi)
- Width (ft, m, km, cm, in, yd, mi)

## Results

- Area
- In hectares
- In square feet
- In square metres
- Perimeter (fencing)

## Formula

```
acres = length × width (in ft²) ÷ 43,560
hectares = length × width (in m²) ÷ 10,000
```

## Explanation

An acre is 43,560 square feet, historically the land one ox team could plough in a day. Farms, house lots and parks are still sold by the acre in the U.S. and UK, and by the hectare almost everywhere else.

### How to use the Acreage Calculator

- **Length**
- **Width**
- Every result field is editable: type into **Area** or any other result and **Length** plus every other field update to match.

Results update as you type, and every field accepts the units shown in its menu.

### How it works

Length and width are converted to metres, multiplied to give the area in square metres, and that area is shown in every land unit. For an irregular field, split it into rectangles and add the results.

### What each result means

- **Area** = [Length] × [Width]
- **In hectares** = [Length] × [Width]
- **In square feet** = [Length] × [Width]
- **In square metres** = [Length] × [Width]
- **Perimeter (fencing)** = 2 × ([Length] + [Width])

## Worked example

Inputs — Length: 330 ft; Width: 132 ft.

Results — **Area = 1 acre**; In hectares = 0.4047 ha; In square feet = 43,560 ft²; In square metres = 4,046.9 m²; Perimeter (fencing) = 924 ft.

## FAQ

**How big is one acre as a square?**
About 208.7 ft on each side.

**How many acres is a football field?**
An American football field with end zones is about 1.32 acres.

**How do I measure an irregular plot?**
Divide it into rectangles and triangles, calculate each, and add them up.

**What formula does the Acreage Calculator use?**
acres = length × width (in ft²) ÷ 43,560.
