Engine displacement is quoted in cubic centimetres (cc) or litres: a 1,600 cc engine is a 1.6 L engine. One litre is 1,000 cc.
How to use the cc to Liter Converter
- Type the number of cubic centimetres into the Cubic centimetres field. Decimals such as 500 are fine.
- Read the answer in Litres – it updates as you type, with no button to press.
- To convert the other way, type into Litres and the cubic centimetres are recalculated.
- Press Copy results to copy both values with the page title, or Copy link to share this exact conversion.
This page converts only cm³ (cc) ⇄ L. Need a different unit? Use the general volume converter, where you can choose any “from” and “to” unit.
How it works
Both units measure volume, so they are always in the same ratio: one cubic centimetre equals 0.001 litres. The calculator multiplies the number of cubic centimetres you type by 0.001 to give litres, and when you type into the litres field it divides by the same factor to give cubic centimetres. Because the ratio never changes, doubling the cubic centimetres always doubles the litres. Results are calculated at full precision and rounded only for display (up to eight decimal places, with very large or small values shown in scientific notation).
How to convert cubic centimetres to litres
- Write down the value in cubic centimetres, for example 1,000 cm³ (cc).
- Multiply by the conversion factor 0.001 (because 1 cubic centimetre = 0.001 L).
- 1,000 × 0.001 = 1 L.
- To go back from litres to cubic centimetres, divide by 0.001 – or multiply by 1,000.

What is a cubic centimetre?
A cubic centimetre (cc) equals one millilitre. Engine displacement and syringe volumes are commonly given in cc.
What is a litre?
A litre is one cubic decimetre, 1,000 cm³. Bottles, fuel, engine sizes and many recipes use litres; a litre of water weighs about 1 kg.
Common mistakes to avoid
Mixing u.s. and uk gallons, pints and fluid ounces, assuming a cup is always 250 ml, and treating volume and weight as interchangeable for anything except water.

Frequently asked questions
How many litres is 2,000 cc?
2 L.
How many cc in a litre?
1,000.
How many litres are in one cubic centimetre?
1 cm³ (cc) = 0.001 L.
How many cubic centimetres are in one litre?
1 L = 1,000 cm³ (cc).
How do I convert cubic centimetres to litres?
Multiply the number of cubic centimetres by 0.001. For example, 1,000 cm³ (cc) × 0.001 = 1 L.
How do I convert litres back to cubic centimetres?
Divide by 0.001 (or multiply by 1,000), or simply type the value into the litres field above.
What is 50 cm³ (cc) in litres?
50 cm³ (cc) = 0.05 L.
Is this conversion exact?
Yes. The factor comes from the official definitions of both units (NIST and the SI), so the only difference you may see is rounding in the last displayed digit.
Can I convert to other units on this page?
This page converts only between cubic centimetres and litres. To pick any volume unit, use the general volume converter linked under Related calculators.
What formula does the cc to Liter Converter use?
1 cm³ (cc) = 0.001 L.
