Twelve inch-pounds equal one foot-pound. Torque wrenches are sold in both scales; small wrenches read in in-lb and larger ones in ft-lb.
How to use the Inch-Pounds to Foot-Pounds Converter
- Type the number of pound-inches into the Pound-inches field. Decimals such as 60 are fine.
- Read the answer in Pound-feet – it updates as you type, with no button to press.
- To convert the other way, type into Pound-feet and the pound-inches are recalculated.
- Press Copy results to copy both values with the page title, or Copy link to share this exact conversion.

How it works
Both units measure torque, so they are always in the same ratio: one pound-inch equals 0.083333333 pound-feet. The calculator multiplies the number of pound-inches you type by 0.083333333 to give pound-feet, and when you type into the pound-feet field it divides by the same factor to give pound-inches. Because the ratio never changes, doubling the pound-inches always doubles the pound-feet. Results are calculated at full precision and rounded only for display (up to eight decimal places, with very large or small values shown in scientific notation).
How to convert pound-inches to pound-feet
- Write down the value in pound-inches, for example 120 lbf·in.
- Multiply by the conversion factor 0.083333333 (because 1 pound-inch = 0.083333333 lbf·ft).
- 120 × 0.083333333 = 10 lbf·ft.
- To go back from pound-feet to pound-inches, divide by 0.083333333 – or multiply by 12.

Quick mental conversion
For a fast estimate, multiply pound-inches by about 0.083 to get pound-feet; the error is about 0.4%. Use the calculator above when you need the exact figure.
Common mistakes to avoid
Confusing ft-lb with in-lb (a factor of 12), and treating torque in n·m as energy in joules.
