> Convert years (year) to decades (decade): 1 year (365.2425 days) = 0.1 decade, so multiply by 0.1 or divide by 10. Both fields are editable, so you can also type in decades and get years back.

## Inputs

- Years (year)

## Results

- Decades

## Formula

```
1 year = 0.1 decade
1 decade = 10 year
decade = year × 0.1
```

## Explanation

A decade is ten years, a century a hundred. Divide years by 10 for decades.

### How to use the Years to Decades Converter

- Type the number of years into the **Years** field. Decimals such as 12.5 are fine.
- Read the answer in **Decades** – it updates as you type, with no button to press.
- To convert the other way, type into **Decades** and the years are recalculated.
- Press **Copy results** to copy both values with the page title, or **Copy link** to share this exact conversion.

This page converts only year ⇄ decade. Need a different unit? Use the general time converter, where you can choose any “from” and “to” unit.

### How it works

Both units measure time, so they are always in the same ratio: one year (365.2425 days) equals 0.1 decades. The calculator multiplies the number of years you type by 0.1 to give decades, and when you type into the decades field it divides by the same factor to give years. Because the ratio never changes, doubling the years always doubles the decades. Results are calculated at full precision and rounded only for display (up to eight decimal places, with very large or small values shown in scientific notation).

### How to convert years to decades

- Write down the value in years, for example **25 year**.
- Multiply by the conversion factor 0.1 (because 1 year (365.2425 days) = 0.1 decade).
- 25 × 0.1 = **2.5 decade**.
- To go back from decades to years, divide by 0.1 – or multiply by 10.

### What is a year?

A calendar year has 365 or 366 days. The average Gregorian year, 365.2425 days, accounts for the leap-year rules.

### What is a decade?

A decade is 10 years.

### Common mistakes to avoid

Treating every month as 30 days or every year as 365 days in long calculations, and writing decimal hours such as 1.5 h as 1 h 50 min (it is 1 h 30 min).

## Worked example

Inputs — Years: 25 year.

Results — **Decades = 2.5 decade**.

## FAQ

**How many decades is 25 years?**
2.5 decades.

**How many decades in a century?**
10.

**How do I convert years to decades?**
Multiply the number of years by 0.1. For example, 25 year × 0.1 = 2.5 decade.

**How do I convert decades back to years?**
Divide by 0.1 (or multiply by 10), or simply type the value into the decades field above.

**What is 10 year in decades?**
10 year = 1 decade.

**What is 100 year in decades?**
100 year = 10 decade.

**Is this conversion exact?**
Yes. The factor comes from the official definitions of both units (NIST and the SI), so the only difference you may see is rounding in the last displayed digit.

**Can I convert to other units on this page?**
This page converts only between years and decades. To pick any time unit, use the general time converter linked under Related calculators.

**What formula does the Years to Decades Converter use?**
1 year = 0.1 decade.
