Minutes are the everyday unit for timing meetings, workouts, cooking and phone calls. Converting large minute counts to hours and minutes (for example 500 minutes = 8 h 20 min) makes them easier to understand.

How to use the Minute Calculator

  1. Start time
  2. End time
  3. Minutes to convert

Results update as you type, and every field accepts the units shown in its menu.

How it works

Pick a start and end time to count minutes, or enter a number of minutes to convert.

Tips

  • Check whether the end date should be included – event durations usually include it, elapsed time does not.
  • Months have 28–31 days, so “one month” is counted by calendar date, not as 30 days.
  • Use 24-hour time or set AM/PM carefully when entering clock times.
  • Time zones and daylight-saving changes are not applied unless the calculator says so.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Counting a 30-day month when a calendar month is meant (or the reverse).
  • Forgetting leap years when counting days across February.
  • Mixing decimal hours (7.5 h) with clock time (7:30).

Inputs explained

Field What to enter
Start time A clock time (hours and minutes)
End time A clock time (hours and minutes)
Minutes to convert A number

What each result means

  • Minutes between the times = mod([End time] – [Start time], 24)×60
  • Time between (h min) = [Minutes between the times]÷60
  • Minutes converted (h min) = [Minutes to convert]÷60
  • Decimal hours = [Minutes to convert]÷60
  • Seconds = [Minutes to convert]×60
  • Days = [Minutes to convert]÷1440

Example values

How the main result changes when Minutes to convert changes and everything else stays at the example values above:

Minutes to convert Minutes between the times
250 205
375 205
500 205
625 205
750 205
1,000 205

Formula

Minutes between = (end − start) × 60 (adding 24 h if the end is past midnight)Hours = floor(minutes ÷ 60); remaining minutes = minutes mod 60

Worked example

Inputs — Start time: 09:40; End time: 13:05; Minutes to convert: 500.
Results — Minutes between the times = 205; Time between (h min) = 3 h 25 min; Minutes converted (h min) = 8 h 20 min; Decimal hours = 8.333; Seconds = 30,000; Days = 0.3472.
