> The tip calculator works out the tip on a bill, the total to pay and each person’s share when splitting. Enter the bill, a tip percentage and the number of people; type a tip amount to see what percentage it represents.

## Inputs

- Bill amount
- Tip (%)
- Split between

## Results

- Tip amount
- Total with tip
- Each person pays

## Formula

```
Tip = bill × tip %
Total = bill + tip
Per person = total ÷ people
```

## Explanation

Tipping customs vary a lot by country. In the United States 15–20% at sit-down restaurants is common, while in many other countries service is included or tips are small.

### How to use it

Enter the bill, choose a tip percentage and the number of people sharing. Some people tip on the pre-tax amount; enter whichever you prefer.

### Quick mental method

Find 10% by moving the decimal one place, then add half again for 15% or double it for 20%.
