CLTV Calculator – Customer Lifetime Value

Quick answer

The customer lifetime value calculator works out how much revenue and gross profit an average customer brings over their relationship with you – from the average order value, purchase frequency, customer lifespan (or churn rate) and margin – and the CLTV-to-CAC ratio.

An LTV:CAC ratio of 3:1 or more is often considered healthy: each customer brings in three times what it costs to win them. Improving retention usually raises CLTV more than raising prices.

Tips

  • Know the difference between margin (profit ÷ price) and markup (profit ÷ cost).
  • Apply successive discounts one after another – they do not simply add up.
  • Check whether prices already include sales tax or VAT.
  • Round prices only at the very end of the calculation.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Adding discount percentages together.
  • Pricing from a target margin using the markup formula.
  • Forgetting payment-processing and shipping fees.
