> The double discount calculator works out the final price after two discounts applied one after another – e.g. 20% off, then an extra 10% off the reduced price – the total saving and the single equivalent discount (it is not the sum of the percentages).

## Inputs

- Original price
- First discount (%)
- Second discount (%)
- Sales tax (%)

## Results

- Final price
- You save
- Equivalent single discount
- Final price with sales tax

## Formula

```
Final price = price × (1 − d1) × (1 − d2)
Equivalent single discount = 1 − (1 − d1) × (1 − d2)
```

## Explanation

Stacked discounts are multiplied, not added: 20% off and then 10% off is 28% off in total, not 30%. The order of the discounts doesn't change the final price.

### How to use the Double Discount Calculator

- **Original price**
- **First discount**
- **Second discount**
- **Sales tax**

Results update as you type, and every field accepts the units shown in its menu.

### How it works

Enter the original price and each discount percentage, plus sales tax if you want it included.

### Tips

- Know the difference between margin (profit ÷ price) and markup (profit ÷ cost).
- Apply successive discounts one after another – they do not simply add up.
- Check whether prices already include sales tax or VAT.
- Round prices only at the very end of the calculation.

### Common mistakes to avoid

- Adding discount percentages together.
- Pricing from a target margin using the markup formula.
- Forgetting payment-processing and shipping fees.

### What each result means

- **Final price** = [Original price]×(1 - [First discount]÷100)×(1 - [Second discount]÷100)
- **You save** = [Original price] - [Final price]
- **Equivalent single discount** = (1 - (1 - [First discount]÷100)×(1 - [Second discount]÷100))×100
- **Final price with sales tax** = [Final price]×(1 + [Sales tax]÷100)

### Example values

How the main result changes when **Original price** changes and everything else stays at the example values above:

## Worked example

Inputs — Original price: $200; First discount: 20 %; Second discount: 10 %; Sales tax: 0 %.

Results — **Final price = $144.00**; You save = $56.00; Equivalent single discount = 28 %; Final price with sales tax = $144.00.

## FAQ

**Do stacked discounts add up?**
No – each applies to the already-reduced price, so the total is less than the sum.

**Does the order of the discounts matter?**
No, the result is the same in any order.

**Is sales tax charged before or after discounts?**
Usually on the discounted price.

**What formula does the Double Discount Calculator use?**
Final price = price × (1 − d1) × (1 − d2).
