> The ELSS calculator projects the value of investments in an equity-linked savings scheme – by SIP or lump sum – and the income tax you save under Section 80C (old tax regime), with the 3-year lock-in.

## Inputs

- Investment type
- Investment amount
- Expected return (p.a.) (%)
- Investment period (years)
- Your tax slab (old regime)

## Results

- Total invested
- Expected value
- Estimated returns
- Tax saved per year (80C)

## Formula

```
SIP value = SIP × ((1 + i)^n − 1) ÷ i × (1 + i), i = annual return ÷ 12
Lump sum value = amount × (1 + r)^years
Tax saved = min(yearly investment, ₹1.5 lakh) × tax slab × 1.04 (cess)
```

## Explanation

ELSS funds have the shortest lock-in (3 years) of all Section 80C options. The deduction is available only under the old tax regime. Long-term capital gains above ₹1.25 lakh a year are taxed at 12.5%.

### How to use the ELSS Calculator – Equity-Linked Savings Scheme

- **Investment type**
- **Investment amount**
- **Expected return (p.a.)**
- **Investment period**
- **Your tax slab (old regime)**

Results update as you type, and every field accepts the units shown in its menu.

### How it works

Choose SIP or lump sum, enter the amount, expected return, period and your tax slab.

### Tips

- Figures use the latest published rates; government scheme rates are revised every quarter.
- Choose between the old and new tax regimes carefully – deductions only count in the old regime.
- Keep proofs of investments and rent for your employer and the tax return.
- Use the official portal of each scheme for exact maturity values.

### Common mistakes to avoid

- Assuming scheme interest rates are fixed for the whole term.
- Forgetting tax on interest from fixed and recurring deposits.
- Missing the yearly minimum deposit on PPF or Sukanya Samriddhi accounts.
