> The net operating assets calculator works out NOA – operating assets minus operating liabilities – the capital actually tied up in a company's core operations, excluding cash, investments and financing.

## Inputs

- Total assets
- Cash and financial investments
- Total liabilities
- Total debt (financial liabilities)
- NOPAT (optional)

## Results

- Operating assets
- Operating liabilities
- Net operating assets
- Return on net operating assets

## Formula

```
Operating assets = total assets − cash and financial investments
Operating liabilities = total liabilities − debt
NOA = operating assets − operating liabilities
```

## Explanation

NOA strips out financial items to show the investment in operations. It's used in return on net operating assets (RNOA) and in the accrual ratio.

### How to use the Net Operating Assets Calculator

- **Total assets**
- **Cash and financial investments**
- **Total liabilities**
- **Total debt (financial liabilities)**
- **NOPAT (optional)**

Results update as you type, and every field accepts the units shown in its menu.

### How it works

Enter total assets, cash and investments, total liabilities and total debt.

### Tips

- Use consistent periods (a year or a quarter) for flow figures and period-end values for balances.
- Average opening and closing balances when a ratio mixes a flow with a stock.
- Benchmark against competitors in the same industry.
- Read the ratio together with others – profitability, liquidity and efficiency tell different stories.

### Common mistakes to avoid

- Using sales instead of cost of goods sold for inventory ratios.
- Mixing gross, operating and net profit.
- Ignoring one-off items that distort a single year.
