> The TDS interest calculator works out the interest payable under Section 201(1A) for late deduction (1% per month) or late payment (1.5% per month) of TDS – counting part of a month as a full month – plus the late filing fee under Section 234E.

## Inputs

- TDS amount
- Date tax was deductible
- Date tax was actually deducted
- Date tax was paid
- Days the TDS return was filed late

## Results

- Months of late deduction
- Due date for payment
- Months of late payment
- Interest for late deduction (1%)
- Interest for late payment (1.5%)
- Late filing fee (Section 234E)
- Total interest and fee

## Formula

```
Late deduction: TDS × 1% × months from the due date of deduction to the actual deduction
Late payment: TDS × 1.5% × months from deduction to payment
Each calendar month or part of a month counts as a full month; late filing fee: ₹200 per day (up to the TDS amount)
```

## Explanation

TDS must be deposited by the 7th of the next month (30 April for March). Interest must be paid before filing the TDS return. The Section 234E late-filing fee is separate from interest.

### How to use the TDS Interest Calculator

- **TDS amount**
- **Date tax was deductible**
- **Date tax was actually deducted**
- **Date tax was paid**
- **Days the TDS return was filed late**

Results update as you type, and every field accepts the units shown in its menu.

### How it works

Enter the TDS amount, the dates when TDS was due, deducted and paid, and any days the return was filed late.

### Tips

- Figures use the latest published rates; government scheme rates are revised every quarter.
- Choose between the old and new tax regimes carefully – deductions only count in the old regime.
- Keep proofs of investments and rent for your employer and the tax return.
- Use the official portal of each scheme for exact maturity values.

### Common mistakes to avoid

- Assuming scheme interest rates are fixed for the whole term.
- Forgetting tax on interest from fixed and recurring deposits.
- Missing the yearly minimum deposit on PPF or Sukanya Samriddhi accounts.

- **Late filing fee (Section 234E)** = min([Days the TDS return was filed late]×200, [TDS amount])
- **Total interest and fee** = [Interest for late deduction (1%)] + [Interest for late payment (1.5%)] + [Late filing fee (Section 234E)]
