DAPT Score Calculator

Quick answer

The DAPT score calculator weighs the benefit (fewer heart attacks and stent thromboses) against the harm (more bleeding) of continuing dual antiplatelet therapy beyond 12 months after a coronary stent.

DAPT score
1
Interpretation
Score below 2 – bleeding risk likely outweighs benefit of prolonged DAPT

The DAPT score was derived from the DAPT trial of more than 11,000 patients. A score of 2 or more favours prolonged dual antiplatelet therapy; below 2, the bleeding risk outweighs the ischaemic benefit.

How to use the DAPT Score Calculator

  1. Age
  2. Cigarette smoking
  3. Diabetes
  4. Heart attack at presentation
  5. Prior PCI or prior heart attack
  6. Paclitaxel-eluting stent
  7. Stent diameter under 3 mm
  8. Heart failure or LVEF under 30%
  9. Vein graft stent

Results update as you type, and every field accepts the units shown in its menu.

How it works

Each answer carries the points shown in the published score. The calculator adds them up and maps the total to the published interpretation.

Scoring table

Item Answers and points
Age Under 65 = 0; 65–74 = -1; 75 or older = -2

Diabetes No = 0; Yes = 1
Heart attack at presentation No = 0; Yes = 1
Prior PCI or prior heart attack No = 0; Yes = 1
Paclitaxel-eluting stent No = 0; Yes = 1
Stent diameter under 3 mm No = 0; Yes = 1
Heart failure or LVEF under 30% No = 0; Yes = 2
Vein graft stent No = 0; Yes = 2

Formula

Score = sum of the points for each item

Worked example

Inputs — Age: Under 65; Cigarette smoking: No; Diabetes: No; Heart attack at presentation: Yes; Prior PCI or prior heart attack: No; Paclitaxel-eluting stent: No; Stent diameter under 3 mm: No; Heart failure or LVEF under 30%: No; Vein graft stent: No.
Results — DAPT score = 1; Interpretation = Score below 2 – bleeding risk likely outweighs benefit of prolonged DAPT.

Key terms

PCI
Percutaneous coronary intervention (stenting).
DAPT
Dual antiplatelet therapy.

Frequently asked questions

What is DAPT?

Dual antiplatelet therapy: aspirin plus a P2Y12 inhibitor such as clopidogrel or ticagrelor.

When is the DAPT score used?

After 12 months of uneventful DAPT following a stent.

Can the score be negative?

Yes – older age lowers the score because bleeding risk rises.
