Last updated: 2026-10-30

> The revised trauma score calculator codes the Glasgow Coma Scale, systolic blood pressure and respiratory rate into the RTS used for trauma triage and outcome prediction, and gives the triage RTS (T-RTS).

## Inputs

- Glasgow Coma Scale
- Systolic blood pressure (mmHg)
- Respiratory rate (breaths/min)

## Results

- GCS code
- SBP code
- RR code
- Revised trauma score
- Triage RTS
- Triage

## Formula

```
Coded values 0–4 for GCS, SBP and RR
RTS = 0.9368 × GCS code + 0.7326 × SBP code + 0.2908 × RR code (0–7.84)
T-RTS = sum of codes (0–12); T-RTS < 11 suggests transfer to a trauma centre
```

## Explanation

The RTS was introduced in 1989 and is part of the TRISS method for predicting trauma survival. Lower scores mean more severe physiological derangement.

### How to use the Revised Trauma Score Calculator

- **Glasgow Coma Scale**
- **Systolic blood pressure**
- **Respiratory rate**

Results update as you type, and every field accepts the units shown in its menu.

### How it works

Enter the first GCS, systolic blood pressure and respiratory rate.

### Inputs explained

FieldWhat to enterGlasgow Coma ScaleA numberSystolic blood pressureIn mmHgRespiratory rateIn breaths/min

### What each result means

- **Revised trauma score** = 0.9368×[GCS code] + 0.7326×[SBP code] + 0.2908×[RR code]
- **Triage RTS** = [GCS code] + [SBP code] + [RR code]

## Worked example

Inputs — Glasgow Coma Scale: 14; Systolic blood pressure: 100 mmHg; Respiratory rate: 24 breaths/min.

Results — GCS code = 4; SBP code = 4; RR code = 4; **Revised trauma score = 7.84**; Triage RTS = 12 / 12; Triage = T-RTS 11–12.

## Key terms

- **RTS**: Revised Trauma Score.

## FAQ

**What is a normal RTS?**
7.84 (all codes 4).

**What is TRISS?**
A method combining RTS, the Injury Severity Score and age to predict survival.

**Is RTS still used?**
Mainly in research and trauma registries.
