Points systems turn several nutrition numbers into one, rewarding protein and penalising saturated fat and sugar. The official WW formulas are proprietary and change over time, so this calculator gives an independent estimate that is close to the 2015–2021 SmartPoints values. It is not affiliated with WW.
How to use the Weight Watchers Points Calculator
- Calories
- Saturated fat
- Sugar
- Protein
- Servings
Results update as you type, and every field accepts the units shown in its menu.
How it works
Read the nutrition label for one serving, enter the four numbers and how many servings you eat. Many foods such as fruit, vegetables, eggs and skinless chicken are zero points in recent WW plans.
Inputs explained
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Calories | In kcal |
| Saturated fat | In g |
| Sugar | In g |
| Protein | In g |
| Servings | A number |
What each result means
- Points per serving (unrounded) = max([Calories]×0.0305 + [Saturated fat]×0.275 + [Sugar]×0.12 – [Protein]×0.098, 0)
- Points per serving = round([Points per serving (unrounded)])
- Points for your servings = round([Points per serving (unrounded)]×[Servings])
Example values
How the main result changes when Calories changes and everything else stays at the example values above:
| Calories (kcal) | Points per serving |
|---|---|
| 125 | 5 |
| 187.5 | 7 |
| 250 | 9 |
| 312.5 | 11 |
| 375 | 13 |
| 500 | 17 |

Formula
Points ≈ calories × 0.0305 + saturated fat (g) × 0.275 + sugar (g) × 0.12 − protein (g) × 0.098
Worked example
Inputs — Calories: 250 kcal; Saturated fat: 4 g; Sugar: 10 g; Protein: 8 g; Servings: 1.
Results — Points per serving (unrounded) = 9.14; Points per serving = 9; Points for your servings = 9.

Frequently asked questions
Is this the official WW formula?
No – WW's current formula is proprietary; this is an estimate based on the published SmartPoints approach.
Why does protein lower the points?
Protein is filling and helps preserve muscle, so it is rewarded.
How many points do I get per day?
It depends on your age, sex, weight and plan; WW sets this individually.
