## Formula

```
Composite = MCQ ÷ 55 × 40 + SAQ ÷ 9 × 20 + DBQ ÷ 7 × 25 + LEQ ÷ 6 × 15 · AP score from estimated cut-offs
```

## Explanation

AP World History: Modern has four parts. Section IA is 55 multiple-choice questions (40% of the score); Section IB is three short-answer questions scored 0–3 each (20%); Section II has the document-based question, scored on a 7-point rubric (25%), and the long essay question, scored on a 6-point rubric (15%).

Because the weights differ so much from the raw point totals, a single rubric point on the DBQ is worth 3.57 composite points on a 0–100 scale, an LEQ point 2.5, a short-answer point 2.22, and a multiple-choice question only 0.73. The DBQ points for contextualization, using evidence beyond the documents and sourcing are the cheapest points on the whole exam.

The College Board sets the 1–5 cut-offs after each administration and does not publish them. The defaults here are **estimates**; you can edit them. Section format and weighting come from the College Board's current AP World History: Modern exam page (exam year 2026–27).

### How it works

Enter your multiple-choice correct count and rubric points for each written part. Each part is scaled to its official weight, the parts are added into a 0–100 composite and compared with the estimated cut-offs.

### Worked example

40 multiple-choice questions correct, short answers 2, 3 and 2, DBQ 5 and LEQ 4. Composite = 40 ÷ 55 × 40 + 7 ÷ 9 × 20 + 5 ÷ 7 × 25 + 4 ÷ 6 × 15 = 29.09 + 15.56 + 17.86 + 10.00 = **72.50**, an estimated **4**; one more DBQ point would add 3.57 and lift it to the estimated 5 range.
