Last updated: 2026-10-30

> The DIN calculator estimates your ski binding release setting from your weight, height, age, boot sole length and skier type, following the ISO 11088 chart method used by ski technicians.

## Inputs

- Weight (kg, lb)
- Height (cm, m, ft, in)
- Age (years)
- Boot sole length (mm)
- Skier type

## Results

- Skier code
- Estimated DIN setting

## Formula

```
Skier code = lower of weight and height codes (A…M) · +1 row for Type II, +2 for Type III · −1 row if age under 10 or 50+ · DIN = chart value for the code and boot sole length
```

## Explanation

The DIN setting decides how much force releases your boot from the binding. Too low and you pre-release at speed; too high and the binding may not release in a fall, risking knee and leg injuries.

### How to use the DIN Ski Binding Setting Calculator

- **Weight**
- **Height**
- **Age (years)**
- **Boot sole length (mm)**
- **Skier type**

This estimate is for information only. Have your bindings set and tested by a certified ski technician. Everything is calculated in your browser.

### How it works

Enter your weight, height and age, your boot sole length (printed on the boot heel) and choose your skier type.

## Worked example

Inputs — Weight: 60 kg; Height: 164 cm; Age (years): 16; Boot sole length (mm): 255; Skier type: Type II – moderate.

Results — Skier code = K; **Estimated DIN setting = 6.5**.

## Key terms

- **DIN**: Release setting scale for ski bindings (ISO 11088).
