Meets the standard

The Army Fitness Test (AFT) replaced the ACFT in June 2025. It has five events scored from 0 to 100 each. Soldiers in combat roles must meet a sex-neutral combat standard (the male scale), while everyone else uses age- and sex-normed general standards.

  4. Deadlift (3-rep max)
  5. Hand-release push-ups
  6. Sprint-drag-carry – minutes
  7. Sprint-drag-carry – seconds

How it works

Choose your age group, sex and standard, then enter your results. For each event the calculator takes the official 60-point and 100-point standards for your group and interpolates between them, so scores between those anchors are close estimates. Check the official scoring scales before relying on a borderline score.

Tips

  • Practise each event with the official standards and equipment before test day.
  • Have a trained person take tape measurements – technique matters more than the tape.
  • Check the current regulation; standards and score charts are updated regularly.
  • Pace your run: an even pace beats a fast start and a slow finish.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Using an out-of-date score chart.
  • Measuring the waist at the wrong landmark for your sex.
  • Rounding measurements the wrong way – most regulations round down to the nearest half inch.

Formula

Event points ≈ 60 + 40 × (your result − 60-point standard) ÷ (100-point standard − 60-point standard), limited to 0–100 Total = sum of the five events (max 500) Pass: at least 60 in every event and a total of 300 (general) or 350 (combat)

Worked example

Inputs — Age group: 17–21; Sex: Male; Standard: General; Deadlift (3-rep max): 230 lb; Hand-release push-ups: 35 reps; Sprint-drag-carry – minutes: 1; Sprint-drag-carry – seconds: 55; Plank – minutes: 2; Plank – seconds: 30; 2-mile run – minutes: 16; 2-mile run – seconds: 30.
Results — Deadlift points = 77 points; Push-up points = 79 points; Sprint-drag-carry points = 82 points; Plank points = 78 points; 2-mile run points = 81 points; Total AFT score = 397 points; Result = Meets the standard.

Frequently asked questions

How many events are in the AFT?

Five: deadlift, hand-release push-ups, sprint-drag-carry, plank and 2-mile run.

What is a passing AFT score?

At least 60 points in every event and 300 in total (general) or 350 (combat).

What is the combat standard?

A sex-neutral standard that uses the male scoring scale for the soldier's age group.

Why is my score an estimate?

The official tables step point by point; this calculator interpolates between the 60- and 100-point standards, which is usually within a few points.
