PTE Academic reports an overall score from 10 to 90 and separate scores for listening, reading, speaking and writing. The overall score is not the average of the skills – it comes from every scored task, many of which assess two skills at once.
Universities and immigration authorities often state requirements in IELTS bands, so test takers want to know what their PTE score is “worth”. In July 2025 Pearson published a new concordance study for the current PTE Academic, which moved several boundaries: an IELTS 6.5 now corresponds to PTE 55–62, IELTS 7.0 to 63–70 and IELTS 8.0 to 79–85. This calculator uses that 2025 table for the overall score and the matching per-skill tables. Older tables (from 2020–2023) gave different values, so always check which version an institution accepts.
The CEFR level follows Pearson’s published alignment. There is no official PTE-to-TOEFL table for the current test, so the TOEFL iBT range shown is indicative only: it chains the PTE→IELTS concordance with ETS’s own TOEFL–IELTS comparison. Readiness messages describe typical university requirements and are not a guarantee of admission or a visa.

How it works
Your overall score is matched to the IELTS band range in Pearson’s 2025 concordance, mapped to CEFR with Pearson’s alignment and, via the IELTS band, to ETS’s TOEFL iBT comparison. Each skill score uses the per-skill concordance.
Worked example
An overall PTE Academic score of 65 lies in the 63–70 range, so the IELTS Academic equivalent is 7.0. It is CEFR B2 (59–75), and IELTS 7.0 corresponds to TOEFL iBT 94–101 in ETS’s comparison. Skill scores of 68 (L), 60 (R), 72 (S) and 66 (W) map to IELTS 7.5, 7.0, 6.5 and 6.5.

Inputs — PTE Academic overall score (10–90): 65; Convert skill scores too: Yes; Listening: 68; Reading: 60; Speaking: 72; Writing: 66.
Results — IELTS Academic equivalent (overall band) = 7.0; CEFR level = B2; Indicative TOEFL iBT range (0–120) = 94–101; University readiness = Meets typical requirements for competitive postgraduate programmes (IELTS 7.0 equivalent); Listening → IELTS band = 7.5; Reading → IELTS band = 7.0.

55–62 on the 2025 table (it was 58–64 on older tables).
